Hello, my name is Edward Kirk-Martin and I started the KMC to catalogue my ever increaing collection, not only so that I can keep up to date with my collection, but also so others across the world can appreciate and learn from my fossils.
For as long as I can remember, I have had an obsession with prehistory and dinosaurs. Most of my childhood was spent reading dinosaur books, watching documentries and visiting museums. When I was 6 or 7, I visited Lyme Regis for the first time, and on Monmouth Beach I found my very first fossil. A small, deformed ammonite, only just about identifiable. Nonetheless, I was over the moon with my discovery and from that moment onwards, I have continued to collect fossils. Nowadays, I mainly collect from the Cretaceous Cliff End Bone Bed at Pett Level and the Thanetian-Ypresian Shark Teeth found at Beltinge and the Isle of Sheppey in North Kent. On top of this, every year I fossil hunt on the Isle of Wight on the north and south coasts. Currently, I estimate the collection to be close to 2000 fossils in total and I am slowly logging each one onto my database.
The Kirk-Martin Collection is the culmination of years of research, dedication, time, money and quite a bit of luck. From the smallest bugs in amber, to the biggest bones, the most impressive teeth to my little deformed ammonite, I treasure my collection, with each giving an insight into a forgotten past and a vastly different world.
